The OSYO Philharmonia Orchestra is a string orchestra offering experiences for advanced junior high school musicians, as well as a particularly advanced elementary students (traditionally, grades 4-9). Admission is by audition, and is open to instrumentalist who play violin, viola, cello or bass.
Under the direction of conductor, Caron Allen, the Philharmonia ensemble explores a wide variety of literature and focuses on detailed, mature music making. This orchestra gives 3 major concerts every year at various venues in the Halton region. With a rich performance history, the Philharmonia has accumulated numerous awards over the years including a Gold Medal Award at the MusicFest National festival in 2015. In 2012, the Philharmonia traveled to Los Angeles and performed at the famous Walt Disney Concert Hall.
Rehearsals take place on Tuesday evenings from 7:00-8:45 pm at Kings Christian Collegiate 528 Burnhamthorpe Rd West in Oakville. Rehearsals begin in September and run through to May. Auditions are held in late May and early September, however, additional auditions can be scheduled through the season for new members.
