Ryan MacKinnon
General Manager | OSYO
Ryan MacKinnon started playing guitar at eight years old and switched over to drum kit when he was 10. Upon entering high school he found a new love in playing classical percussion instruments.
Ryan has a Bachelor of Music in Self-Directed Performance at Wilfrid Laurier University and has played with a variety of different orchestras, choirs and concert bands including the Stratford Symphony, Guelph Symphony and Guelph Concert Band.
He is the Community Program Manager at a local non-profit called Bandology. There, he organizes and runs all community programs such as: Bucket Drumming, Drumline and Percussion Ensemble workshops. These are held at various schools, community centers and parks. Ryan is also responsible for coordinating and running Halton Band Camp. He developed and facilitates Staff Training, the Counselor in Training programs for Halton, Guelph and Waterloo camp locations.

COACHES

Laurissa Chitty
Coach | Violin
Although she was born and raised in British Columbia, Laurissa Chitty is currently living in Mississauga. She plays with the Oakville Symphony and enjoys teaching, coaching, and freelancing in the GTA. Laurissa was formerly the second violinist of the Saint John String Quartet and Principal Second Violinist for Symphony New Brunswick.
Laurissa has enjoyed a long-standing private teaching studio and she has taught with the Sistema Program in Toronto.
She successfully obtained a Master of Music from the University of Ottawa and a Bachelor of Music at Wilfrid Laurier. She is an alumnus of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada and has attended musical training programs in Ireland, Norway, Quebec, and Northern British Columbia.
When she is not on her fiddle, Laurissa enjoys drinking coffee, walking the dog, and chauffeuring her three children.

Sarah Zbogar
Coach | Violin
Mrs. Sarah Zbogar has worked for over twenty-five years in both elementary and secondary schools within Peel and Halton teaching music. Her passion for singing and for public speaking has enabled her to introduce numerous classes to the joys of choral singing and musical theatre.
Mrs. Zbogar has Masters of English and teaching degrees from U. of T. as well as ARCTs in both piano and violin performance from the Royal Conservatory.
Mrs. Zbogar is the director of the St. Andrew Children's Choir and a string coach for the Oakville Symphony Youth Orchestra.
She also teaches private piano and theory classes for students in Oakville and is an active member of the Oakville Symphony Orchestra.
Mother of four young adults, Mrs. Zbogar shares with her family a passion for dog-walking, hiking, cross-country skiing, cycling, camping, travelling and canoeing!

Nancy Nelson
Coach | Oboe & English Horn
Nancy Nelson’s oboe/English Horn performing career has been a wonderful ride so far! After receiving her Honours Degree in Music, she received a prestigious Canada Council Grant for further performance studies with Louis Rosenblatt, the solo English Horn in the Philadelphia Orchestra, while also attending many masterclasses with renowned players such as John Mack, Robert Bloom and John DeLancie.
Nancy performs on both oboe and English Horn in the Hamilton Philharmonic, is Principal oboe of the Brantford Symphony, and enjoys coaching and mentoring many musical groups in the area. She has performed in the Toronto Symphony, COC Orchestra , NBOC Orchestra, KW Symphony, Niagara Symphony and Orchestra London oboe sections. Furthermore she has been guest soloist with the HPO, McMaster Symphony, Brantford Symphony and Oakville Symphony. Nancy was also honoured to perform Divertimento No. 11 for English Horn and Strings, by John Weinzweig, composed specifically for her and commissioned by the HPO and Victor Feldbrill.
She has had the privilege of performing in many wonderful musicals in Toronto, Stratford, and Niagara-on-the-Lake’s Shaw Festival as well.
Nancy has been a Sessional Instructor at McMaster, Redeemer, and Guelph Universities while operating a private music studio in home. In addition, she is the Music Director/Organist at Christ Church Flamborough.

Andrew Park
Coach | Cello
It all started when Andrew Park wanted to play the musical saw, but thanks to
his mother he now plays the cello. Music has always surrounded Andrew. Whether he
was falling asleep to his mother’s Chopin, envying his brother’s Jimi Hendrix like
impromptus, or watching his father play the great classics with the Toronto
Symphony, all his life, Andrew, has been fascinated by performance and intrigued by
the processes of creating art and thanks to many mentors and communities he has
performed in festivals around the world traveling to Norway, Mexico, The U.S. and
across Canada. He has performed with the likes of Lauryn Hill, Russ & Charlotte
Cardin in stadiums across North America, but has also performed with the Toronto
Symphony, Calgary Philharmonic, and remains an active chamber & orchestral
musician.
Andrew co-founded “Strings From Paris” in 2022 and has since gone viral
online with string arrangements of hip/hop and contemporary R&B music. In 2023/24
Strings From Paris toured with Charlotte Cardin and later Russ for their respective
stadium tours performing for 15,000+ people a night across North America. Together
with sFp he has performed at Zoomer Hall for 96.3FM Radio Live, at the Stratford
Music Festival with Mark Fewer and Yolanda Bruno, and partnered with Candlelight
Concerts to present the Bridgerton Netflix Series’ showcase after their covers were
featured on the show (“POV” & “DJ Got Us Falling In Love”).
Andrew holds a masters degree in cello performance from the University of
Toronto, a bachelor’s degree in music performance with a minor in composition from
the University of Calgary, and a performance diploma from the Mount Royal
Conservatory. He studied with John Kadz, Johanne Perron & Joe Johnson. He helps
run the Oakville Suzuki Association and has a full private studio of young aspiring
cellists. He coaches the Oakville Youth Symphony Orchestra and regularly travels
throughout the GTA giving masterclasses, sectionals and chamber coachings.
Andrew plays on an 1850 Belgian Jean Baptiste Vuillaume copy and is an
active member of TMA-149. He currently resides in Toronto’s Davenport area and
makes seasonal trips to western Canada. He has recently begun releasing original
music on Digital Streaming Platforms such as Apple Music & Spotify, which you can
find under his name.

Sophie Lanthier
Coach | Flute
Sophie Lanthier is a Canadian flutist and educator based in Toronto, Ontario. An active orchestral, chamber, and solo performer, she is deeply committed to promoting and expanding the contemporary flute repertoire.
Lanthier has performed extensively across Southern Ontario with ensembles including the Ontario Philharmonic, Canadian Opera Company, Niagara Symphony Orchestra, Urban Orchestra, and Casa Loma Symphony. As a soloist, she has appeared with orchestras across Canada and the United States. Featured performances include Mozart’s Flute Concerto in G major, K. 313 with the Northwestern University Campus Philharmonic (2019); François Borne’s Fantaisie brillante sur Carmen with the Oakville Symphony Orchestra (2024); Vivaldi’s Piccolo Concerto in C major, RV 443 with the Ontario Philharmonic (2025); and Vivian Fung’s Flute Concerto, Storm Within with the University of Toronto Contemporary Music Ensemble (2026).
A dedicated advocate for contemporary music, Lanthier performs regularly with New Music Concerts. She is a member of the Association of Canadian Women Composers and a founding member of inVENT, a wind trio with clarinetist Marc Blouin and bassoonist Kevin Harris.
As an educator, Lanthier is a flute instructor at Wilfrid Laurier University and coaches chamber music at the University of Toronto, while maintaining a thriving private studio in Toronto. She regularly works with the Oakville Symphony Youth Orchestra and the Toronto Youth Wind Orchestra as a flute coach and audition adjudicator.
Lanthier is currently completing a Doctor of Musical Arts in Flute Performance at the University of Toronto. She holds degrees from Northwestern University, the Glenn Gould School, and the University of Toronto, and her principal teachers include Leslie Newman, John Thorne, Jennifer Gunn, Alyce Johnson, Susan Hoeppner, and Nora Shulman.
STUDENT PERSONNEL

Carol Chen
Personnel Manager | OSYO Symphony
Since the 2022/23 season, Carol has been the principal percussionist and percussion section leader of the OSYO Symphony, working under the highly respected Colin R. Clarke. Her leadership and precision have been vital in the ensemble’s performances, and her expertise has allowed her to collaborate multiple times with the Oakville Symphony Orchestra. Her blend of technical skill and emotional resonance engaged the audiences and made each performance a meaningful experience.
Outside of music, Carol is an active leader at Oakville Trafalgar High School, serving on the Student Council and as an executive member of both the Eco Council and the Economics Club.

Anjali Balan
Personnel Manager | OSYO Symphony
Anjali Balan is currently a grade 10 student attending Abbey Park High School, and has been a dedicated violinist in the OSYO since their 2019-20 season and has been playing under the leadership of the esteemed Colin R. Clarke since 2023. Originally starting with the piano at age 3, she extended her musical proficiency with the violin and has been playing since the age of 10.
Playing at an RCM 10 level, her dedication and passion towards her instrument with her teacher, Valerie Gordon, has led her to win numerous competitions, one being First Place at the Hamilton Music Festival. She has also collaborated several times with the Oakville Symphony.
When she is not practicing Pictures at An Exhibition or The Pines of Rome, Anjali is actively involved at her school as part of the executive team on her school’s Environmental Council and REACH for the Top Trivia team, helping them win First Place at their provincial competition.
Anjali believes in the great impact music can have on people of all ages, and with collaboration, passion, and dedication, she strives to create a meaningful experience to all musicians within the OSYO as Personnel Manager.
