History
With a combined 70 years of history, in 2013 the Halton Youth Symphony and the Mississauga Youth Orchestra merged to form the Halton Mississauga Youth Orchestra. In 2017, the HMYO transitioned to what is now the Oakville Symphony Youth Orchestra (OSYO). Our goal was to become the premiere youth orchestra in the western Greater Toronto Area. Over the years, we have inspired over 4,000 young musicians to achieve excellence through a love of music, while also helping them develop skills of self-esteem, discipline, teamwork, leadership and performance.
The strength of our reputation attracts musicians from Halton, Peel, the GTA and beyond. We have four separate music of all ages.
Celebrating Caron Allen
After 18 remarkable years with the OSYO, we bid a heartfelt farewell to Caron Allen as she retires from her role as conductor of the Sinfonia and Philharmonia.
Throughout her tenure, Caron has inspired generations of young musicians with her exceptional musicianship, dedication, and passion for orchestral music. Her leadership has shaped not only the sound of the orchestra but also the confidence, discipline, and love of music of countless students who have had the privilege of learning under her direction.
The impact of Caron's contributions extends far beyond rehearsals and performances. She has fostered a community where young musicians could grow, challenge themselves, and create lasting memories and friendships through music.
As we celebrate her extraordinary legacy, we invite you to enjoy this special tribute video, featuring reflections, memories, and messages of gratitude from those whose lives she has touched over the past two decades.
Thank you, Caron, for your unwavering commitment to the OSYO and for the lasting influence you have had on our orchestra and our community. We wish you every happiness in your retirement and look forward to seeing your musical legacy continue to resonate for years to come.
